“The day I was out of jail, it was a madafucken problem, to be where the fuck you was from. The day I stepped out, that’s power. I want these little niggas to see that. I didn’t get that power from guns ‘cause there’s no guns in jail. I got that power from books, and from thinking, by strategizing, that’s what I want little niggas to see…” - Tupac. A. Shakur.

"The further a society drifts from truth, the more it will hate those who speak it."

"I feel like role models today
Are not meant to be put on a pedestal.
But more like angels
With broken wings."

Somalian warlord on the US payroll in Dirty Wars: The World Is A Battlefield

Saw this last night at the Sydney Film Festival, and while I cannot say that I enjoyed the experience (although I did enjoy hearing the Kronos Quartet’s music used throughout), I think it’s required viewing. Highly recommended.

"America knows war. They are war masters. … Great teachers."

“We are told we are fighting terrorists; the real terrorist was me and the real terrorism is this occupation… We need to wake up and realize that our real enemies are not in some distant land. They’re not people whose names we don’t know and cultures we don’t understand. The enemy is people we know very well and people we can identify. The enemy is a system that wages war when it’s profitable, the enemy is the CEOs who lay us off our jobs when it’s profitable, It’s the Insurance Companies who deny us Health care when it’s profitable. It’s the Banks who take away our homes when it’s profitable. Our enemies are not five thousands miles away, they are right here at home but if we organize and fight with our sisters and brothers we can stop this war we can stop this government and we can create a better world.”

how could you be possibly happy..?

A musician must make music; an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be.

                                                                                    -Abraham Maslow

"Man is born free, but he is everywhere in chains. "

“I didn’t understand anything because of my hunger. I wasn’t dumb. It wasn’t lack of interest. My social condition didn’t allow me to have an education. Experience showed me once again the relationship between social class and knowledge”

“Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world.”
